A Wonderful Read — Audiobook Recommended!

I really enjoyed this book! And while I’m sure I’d have liked it just as much if I’d read it in print, I have to say, the woman who read the audiobook version was a genius. Rebecca Gibel, I believe. A true master of voice acting. She did regional dialect, she did accents, she did male voices well, she varied tones and speech patterns and brought emotions to life. I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks, but I’ve never listened to someone who struck me as so skillful. It really brought the book together for me in a way I don’t think I could have imagined for myself. Just truly loved the work of both the author and the actress. I don’t think the audiobook is listed for sale on Amazon–or at least I didn’t see it at first glance–but I borrowed one from the library. I seriously recommend that medium!

Although, in hindsight, about the only problem I had with the story is the fact that Jack never once went to visit his father or his previous home while he was back for the first time in seven years. Didn’t even seem to think about it. I get he was focused on Maddie and getting to the bottom of the liquor scheme, but seriously? Maybe his dad had died and I just missed the mention of it; but then, wouldn’t Jack visit the grave? There must have been a good reason that I just didn’t pay attention to.
